Identify Problems Of Your Home Water System Through Water Pressure Gauge

It is of significance importance, especially, for a working home inspector, to determine the adequacy of water pressure in some definitive way. Water pressure gauge is good means of documenting the water pressure readings on the report, particularly, when there is some issue related to high or low water pressure with the client. Water pressure gauge is a very inexpensive and handy tool that can be operated without any hassle by any homeowner. On an average, a water pressure gauge can be bought from any local hardware store at a price of approx. $10.
The normal pressure of water is considered to be between 40 & 80 Pounds per Square Inch. It is the outside faucet where the water pressure gauge is usually screwed. Sometimes the plumber fits the hosebibb or faucet before putting in a pressure reducer in the system due to which the water pressure gauge indicates high readings. When high reading is indicated in the hosebibb, a second reading should be taken by attaching the water pressure gauge to the faucet used for the washing machine.
If you are facing problems of high or low water pressure in your home, you can know the reason for this through a water pressure gauge. To overcome the problem of very high water pressure, a pressure reducer is installed by the plumber. But when the problem relates to low water pressure then there could be some complication such as bad pressure at source, rusted pipes or such other problem.
With proper functional water pressure gauge the fluctuations in water delivery can be easily observed. Like any other tools, water pressure gauge can also fail with time and start giving wrong readings. At this stage the water pressure gauge should be replaced. You can replace water pressure gauge easily in a few minutes using crescent wrench and some Teflon tape. Sometimes you may have to shut off and drain the whole water system of your home.
Before starting on replacing the water pressure gauge, you have to close the small water valve that exists below the old pressure gauge.Place the crescent wrench just below the gauge itself on the square metal neck of the device. Now turn the wrench and the water pressure gauge in counterclockwise direction and remove the gauge from the female pipe fitting by hands. Apply a few rounds of pipe thread sealant to the male threads of the new water pressure gauge and the new small valve and in clockwise direction start the small valve into the thread of the plumbing pipe.
Now tighten it with the crescent wrench and threads of the new water pressure gauge should be started in the same way as with the new valve. Make sure that the threads do not cross and for this purpose you can start threads by hand. Crescent wrench should be used for gauge tightening. After all this has been done, the water pressure gauge starts indicating the water pressure when the main cold water valve or the small pressure gauge valve is opened.
